F.A.Q

How many can play?
You can play with a minimum of 6 people although we would recommend at least 8 for a more enjoyable game (the more the merrier!). At this stage we can cater for up to 36 players.  Let us know if you are wanting us to cater for a larger group.

What sort of guns and equipment do we use?
We use quality American made Tippmann Marker guns that have been customised and upgraded with adjustable stocks and the patented Flatline Barrels (which puts backspin on the balls giving them a flatter projectory and increased range by 150ft). All our guns operate on high pressure air (hpa) rather than the more commonly used CO2 gas and operate via a remote system.  We believe the equipment at Mission Martinborough to be far superior in performance and playability than that used at other paintball facilities...  All Mission Martinborough's paintballs are tournament quality and are held in a temperature and humidity controlled storage container.

Can I bring my own paintball gun and paintballs?
No - only our own guns and paintballs can be used.

How many paintballs do I need?
This depends a lot on the person and the particular game you play. We will send you out with 5 pods of paintballs (each pod holds 140 paintballs). At the end of the game you can return un-opened pods and pay for what has been opened. The average seems to be 2 - 4 extra pods, the extreme Rambo wannabes have used up to 8 extra pods!!

How much time do we need to allow?
Allow approximately 2 hours which includes a thorough safety brief and a short half time break. This could vary depending on the size of your group and your paintball budget.

Do I need to book?
Yes bookings are essential. Games are generally booked for 10am or 2pm. Later evening games are available during daylight savings and gives workers the option to play at the end of the working day. Depending on other bookings we can be flexible, any enquiries are welcome. Please arrive at least quarter of an hour before your booked time.

Does it hurt?
Some say yes, some say no! We feel it hurts enough to show your opposition some respect which adds to the excitement and realism of the game. Loose clothing and the overalls we provide do help.

Mission Martinborough also have a limited number of protection packs available for hire which provide protection for hands, neck and chest.  These packs are available on a first come first served basis with the ladies having priority over the men!  Hireage for the protection packs are an additional $7.50 per pack.

What sort of food do you have available?
We have light food available such as hot chips, fish bites and mini hot dogs. For groups over 10 and playing the afternoon session we can organise a BBQ ($12-$25 per person) or a Keg Hangi ($18 per person) - these need to be booked in advance with a $10 per person non-refundable deposit. We can also arrange a basic sausage sizzle which you cook yourself ($6 per person). Please refer to our Menu on our Facilities page.

Can we bring our own food and alcohol?
No, Mission Martinborough is a fully licensed premises. We have a menu to suit most budgets and a good range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

What do I wear?
You are provided with quality anti-fog safety masks and camouflage overalls, under these we suggest loose fitting clothes. You may wish to bring your own protection for the throat and those more “delicate” areas. It is also a good idea to wear a baseball cap backwards for added head protection. Good outdoor shoes with good grip are essential - rugby boots (or similar) have been found to be effective in the winter.
Changing facilities are available so if wet a change of clothes may be useful as you may get dirty.

What if it is raining?
Only in extreme weather conditions will we consider cancelling, in this case we will refund your deposit. The playing field is in a large gully which is generally quite sheltered.

About Target Shooting
Mission Martinborough has a shooting range where participants who are apprehensive about playing paintball can shoot at various targets across or down a gully.  Try nailing a duck on the pond or have a long range crack at the man in the jeep 85 metres away.  Find out how good a shot you are under pressure as your efforts are likely to be scrutinized by the audience at the bar!

Can spectators watch?
Spectators are welcome to stay at the base, enjoy our bar facilities, have a snack, watch any target shooting, and admire the amazing view.  Some of the paintballing action can be seen from a safe distance.

Do you have any extra advice for organisers?
If you are the person organising your game we would appreciate it if you could either direct members of your group to our website or advise them with regard to what is required and our facilities.  It is also important that you ensure that no one is to consume alcohol before arriving.
